Majumdar Lab

Research in the Majumdar laboratory is aimed at developing safer opioid analgesics. We use both classical as well as modern structure-based approaches to design novel opioid receptor modulators. Work from the laboratory has led to probes, which display low efficacy partial agonists (see J Med Chem graphic below), G-protein biased signaling, analgesics targeting splice variants of mu opioid receptor and aided in the crystallization of kappa opioid receptor in its active form. We are currently interested in the chemistry & pharmacology of kratom alkaloids and targeting allosteric sites in opioid and cannabinoid receptors. We are funded by grants from National Institute of Drug Abuse and National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
