About Us

The Washington University Pain Management Center has been helping people living with chronic pain since 1991. Robert Swarm, M.D., medical director, who is board certified in the fields of Anesthesiology and pain management, developed and supervises the program. Five anesthesiologists with advanced training and certification in Pain Management are part of the program in addition to a full-time psychologist, physical therapists and registered nurses.

The Pain Management program is a division in the department of anesthesiology. In addition to the Center's two outpatient centers, acute care for inpatients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is also provided.

Our doctors are experts in their field. They lecture both in the United States as well as internationally, and have written articles and books/book chapters on pain management. We are the only pain management program in the metropolitan area with an ACGME fellowship program.
